A Full House

Delta Sound was recently involved with a musical collaboration on the bridge overlooking the stunning background of the Tate Modern.

The piece- A Man in a Room Gambling sees the coming together of artist Juan Mooz and musician Gavin Bryars. Ten 5-minute pieces of vocal recordings by Moņoz see him explaining different ways of counting cards, under dealing and card hustles from around the world.  These were then underscored by Bryars music using a five piece string section. The whole piece was intended to feel like you were listening to the Shipping Forecast, late at night.

This was one of the first concerts of its type to be performed on the bridge and Delta Sound, the Tate's resident sound company were bought in to provide acoustical support. In what was a very challenging acoustic environment a specially designed system was installed for the concert which utilised a number of small line array elements either side of the string section, as well as a flown vocal system over the head for the track playback.

The two concerts were performed to a very appreciative crowd and the Tate's team of Curators and Musical Consultants were all thoroughly complimentary about the whole sound of the piece.  With talk of the next collaboration already underway, this unique setting may prove to be a very popular site for further pieces by the Tate, and one that Delta will continue to support with wide innovative ways.
